What does it mean to be present?
We’ve all been told its important to stay in the present moment, and it seems like its a truth most people actually agrees upon. But what does it really mean? For me it seems like the present moment is a relative concept. Its actually a paradox and an oxymoron. A moment is a period of time whereas the essence of presence is a place without time. We tend to live in the future and the past. Our thoughts are trying to prepare us for what might come while at the same time we’re having resistance to what has already happened. Staying in the present moment means to accept what is right now. But the present moment goes even deeper than right now. How present can we be?
The essence of presence is a place with zero resistance and therefor the most intimate place to be. There is no future nor past here. It’s a place where time does not exist. When we’re talking about time, we’re talking about how some things move compared to something else. This creates the illusion of a linear time, but when we’re completely present, nothing is separated and there is only one movement. The movement of the universe. When we’re tuning into this place, we have to leave all our concepts, ideas and illusions behind. We have to let go of the urge of defining what we experience. Imagine if your whole experience lost definition. A bird would no longer be a bird. It would simply just be a part of everything else you see. Without any separation. We’re in a state where we observe without any filters. 100% pure and organic. The information we now receive is truth in(maybe) the highest state of consciousness. Tuning into this place means letting go of everything we know, and to truly let go is to accept the concept we call death. To leave everything as we know it. We’ve all done it before, but this time we called it birth. Being born is a process that often leaves us with traumas. Being tightly squeezed out of the universe we where made in, experiencing cold, gravity, light, loud sounds, air on the skin, breathing and so on. All of this for the very first time. No wonder we fear death..
But why tune into the present “moment”?
The more present we become, the more harmonious our lives become because we are tuning into the movement of the universe. We’re finding truth and we’re achieving freedom. I could write about the pro’s of tuning in, but in a way its the essence of almost every other entry I’ve posted.
